Our Voices Matter

The DRC Youth Committee is a group of young people aged 14+ who take the lead in shaping opportunities, making decisions, and creating meaningful change in our community.

We are not just consulted—we actively plan, organise, and take action on the issues that matter to us.

  • Decision-Making & Leadership
    We influence how youth services and projects are run, ensuring that young people have a direct say in decisions that affect them.

  • Events & Community Projects
    From community meals to major youth-led events, we design and deliver initiatives that bring young people together.

  • Youth Advocacy & Representation
    We work with local organisations, stakeholders, and decision-makers to ensure young people’s needs and ideas are heard and acted upon.

  • Consultations & Research
    Through exhibitions, surveys, and creative projects, we gather and present youth perspectives to drive real change in our community.

What is our Committee about?

As young people, we are constantly told that our voices matter but too often, decisions are made for us, not with us. At the DRC Youth Committee, we aren’t just speaking up…we are trying to lead the way by creating real opportunities for young people in our community. We want to take this further by learning from other young people outside of Glasgow who are making change in their communities

Our Recent Work

Twilight at the Museum (November 2024)

The first youth-led event at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, offering young people exclusive access to explore and engage with the space in new ways. The youth committee were utilised by Glasgow Life to plan and deliver the event. 

Your Voice 6 (February 2024)

A youth-driven event in partnership with the North-West Health Improvement Team and the North-West Youth Network, ensuring young people play an active role in shaping local policies and initiatives.

Community Lunch (April 2025

A free, three-course meal planned and prepared by the committee to strengthen connections and celebrate youth leadership.

Victoria Park Youth Event (June 2025)

A youth-focused event developed in collaboration with local organisations (Victoria Park Community Trust and funded by Whiteinch and Scotstoun Housing Association) to create opportunities for young people in the park.

Youth Photovoice Exhibition (June 2023)

A showcase of photographic research on youth wellbeing, engaging local stakeholders in discussions about action for change.

Supporting development of Youth Committees (January 2025)

Sharing knowledge and learning with partner organisation Workingrite to help facilitate the development of a new youth committee.
