Tailored Support Programmes
The DRC Youth Project (SCIO) have been awarded the opportunity to provide ‘Embedded Mental Health and Wellbeing Support in Schools’ by Glasgow City Council (2024)
We work together with local schools to develop tailored support programmes for young people who are opting out of classes or disengaging from school. Support can be provided on an individual basis or group setting depending on the needs of the school and their pupils.
Each group programme we develop will have elements of personal development and teamwork. For example, our ‘Health & Beauty’ course provides young people with the opportunity to work together with a trained Beauty Therapist in our training salon. Each pupil also has access to our extensive health and safety online training suite, which delivers a wide range of workplace certification, with the DRC providing one-to-one support for each individual to gain recognised accreditation.
Throughout their time with the project, each young person will be supported towards our employability initiatives (such as Pathfinder) or a positive pathway we deem suitable for their individual needs. All young people will have a chance to gain volunteer/ work experience with some of our key partners and/ or in our shop, the North-West Community Pantry.
None of this would be possible without the support of our local schools. They share our vision and have backed the development of support and vocational training for young people who are in danger of missing out on opportunities. To date, we have worked together with John Paul Academy, Knightswood Secondary, St. Thomas Aquinas RC Secondary School and Drumchapel High to provide tailored support.
